From Corporate to Creative

Our Creator Origin Stories

Hello World 👋

In our very first episode, we (

and ) talk about the start of our creator journeys, including our side-hustle newsletters, YouTube videos, and working for two of the big cohort-based online courses on the internet.

Our creator origin stories

We both stumbled into online creation during while still clocking in at our corporate day jobs.

  • Bhav wrote a personal finance newsletter for her colleagues and interviewed her friends on the Creators Campfire podcast.

  • Becky started a YouTube channel about urban sketching around Hong Kong and then a year later pivoted to weekly essays on Substack.

Not every project worked out, but we took something away from the craft regardless. Looking back, those early flops were really just early reps.

  • Bhav discovered the personal-finance niche was packed and paused the Instagram push.

  • Becky found weekly YouTube edits draining, even after hiring freelancers.

Jumping into creator-sphere

Interestingly, both of our creative pursuits led us to work for one of the most well-recognised YouTubers out there, Ali Abdaal.

  • Bhav has just stepped down after four years running operations for Ali Abdaal’s courses, including Part-Time YouTuber Academy.

  • Becky just joined Ali’s team as a YouTube producer.

With Bhav stepping away from full-time ops and Becky adjusting to a new role, we’re both looking for ways to reopen those creative taps.

  • Bhav wants to start like 5 podcasts (please hold her accountable to that), including this one. Potentially reviving her YouTube channel for book videos.

  • Becky is working on her book Bite-Sized Creativity and reviving her YouTube channel around the creativity space.

Enter: Small Creator, Big World

Small Creator, Big World is our learning-and-flailing-in-public thing. It’s a monthly check-in from two people still deep in the messy middle—testing systems, sharing wins, and airing flops in real time.

  • Potential topics: energy budgeting, side-hustle systems, and whether quitting the 9-to-5 is even necessary.

  • Expect insider takes (or at least a BTS from two people who are working in the creator economy), vibes, and live accountability pact (Becky: one YouTube upload per month; Bhav: launch the book-club pilot).
